In addition to getting strong skills and a good portfolio, you need to meet people in the industry because so many jobs are made through personal contact. One way to do this is to join professional organizations and attend their meetings, conferences, and seminars. Many of these organizations have inexpensive student memberships. They also often have print journals and newsletters that list jobs.

The HTML Writers Guild

The first international organization of World Wide Web page authors and Internet Publishing professionals. Guild members have access to resources including: HTML and Web business mailing lists, information repositories, and interaction with their peers.

Society for Technical Communication (STC)
STC's members include technical writers, editors, graphic designers, multimedia artists, Web and intranet page information designers, translators and others whose work involves making technical information understandable and available to those who need it.

  AAIM was created to support professionals who use and develop interactive multimedia.
• The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
  The first and remains the largest international scientific and educational computer society in the world. They have a special interest group (SIG) for multimedia.
• Association for Educational Communications Technology (AECT)
  An organization of professionals interested in the use of educational technology and its application to the learning process.
• Computer Game Developers' Association (CGDA)
  The Computer Game Developers' Association is the professional society for interactive entertainment, educational software, and multimedia .
• The International Interactive Communications Society (IICS)
  The nation's oldest professional organization devoted exclusively to interactive arts and technology professionals.
• International Television Association (w)
  The organization of non-broadcast (corporate, educational etc.) television producers is increasingly active in interactive media.
