AMC Family Paddle: Merrimack River

Put-in Location: Boscawen NH town park.

• Exit 17 off 93, exit West off the ramp towards Boscawen.
• About a mile after you join Route 3, there is an entrance to the town park on your right near an old motel. Take a right on this road off of Route 3
• Follow park entrance road to river, bear right at river and continue to end of road. You will see a path to the river.

Time: 10:00, Saturday 8/12

Requirements: Boat, lifejackets, lunch, water, swim suit, beach towel/blanket, sunblock . Children must wear life jackets.

Registration and Boats: If you have a boat (canoe or kayak), please register with leader or co-leader at least 3 days before trip. If you do not have your own boat (canoe or kayak), get in touch with the trip leader by 8/1. There will be an additional charge for boat rental.

Type of Paddling: This is a family paddle so will be geared towards children. The pace will be SLOW. There will be several stops for picknicking, swimming, and exploring. The water on this part of the Merrimack is clear and there are sandy beaches.

Weather: If it is rainy or extremely windy, the trip will be cancelled or postponed until Sunday. Please check this website at 8:30 AM or later on day of trip.

Boating Safety Rules

• Always stay behind the designated lead boat. Do not go out ahead. If you get in trouble, no one will be able to help you.
• Always stay in front of the designated sweep boat.
• Wear PFDs whenever in the boat.
• Bring plenty of water and sunblock. The sun is more intense on the water than off.
• If you are leaving the group, let the leader know.
• Always have a spare paddle.
• Avoid downed trees and branches in the water. It is easy to get entangled in current.
